From the damp heaths of mid Wales comes the delightfully tight ska of
Smoke Like a Fish. Hardly akin to the adolescent skater music pumped
into the American mainstream in the mid ’90s, this is the genuine
article. In the tradition of The Specials and Toasters, Smoke’s juicy
guitars and round horn stabs frolic in the parallel universe of the
upbeat.

Isn’t it fun when your friends email you telling you they think they have seen your design ripped off somewhere? Well somebody pointed me towards “Pastarazzi” in Chester, citing their background image.
Whilst not directly a lifted image, they have gone for a similar looking tiled, black and grey damask look ( you can see it at http://www.pastarazzi.co.uk ).
Now i’m not obviously saying invented this look (used here to great effect here on my own website) but its a real shame they have made a piss poor hash at it - the background isn’t fixed, and the image doesn’t actually line up with itself when tiling! Oh dear…
If you are looking for a proper way to do it, take inspiration from the following code (note the php file pointing to is a rotation script, you can just change this to your fixed image).
body{margin:0px;padding:0px;
font: 13px Tahoma,Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#767676;
background-color:#fff;margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;
margin-top: 0px; padding: 0px;
background-image: url(../../images-re-align-design/BGrotator/rotator.php);
background-repeat: repeat ; background-attachment:fixed;}

Just managed to import the old Funkdub eZine here for posterity. The eZine itself will be closed as part of the eventual Funkdub website redevelopments. Watch this space! http://www.funkdub.info/

Colour symbolism and colour psychology. Is your favourite colour lucky, are you lucky? Are 4 leaf clovers lucky? Am I lucky?

Reading the writing that’s on the wall, Microsoft is going to play nice with open source. They’ve laid out for new interoperability principles for their biggest products: Vista, Office 2007, Server 2008 (plus some more bizzy wares) and “all future versions of these products.” Their new get-along principles are “ensuring open connections; promoting data portability; enhancing support for industry standards; and fostering more open engagement with customers and the industry.” They’re also pledging they will not sue open source developers for using their protocols.
