The Aliens
Whisper it, but the demise of the peerless Beta Band may be no bad thing, especially since the aliens have landed. Steve Mason came blazing back with the dubbed up sound of the excellent King Biscuit Time, and one time Beta Banders John Maclean and Robin Jones have teamed up with Gordon Anderson (original BB member for medical reasons didn’t make the final line-up, but before leaving co-wrote Dry The Rain amongst others), to form The Aliens. The Aliens in some senses pick up where the Beta Band left off, but in many others jet off on their own psychedelic tangent. Their first EP has garnered critical acclaim left right and centre and justly so, robotman has to be heard to be believed. With an album in the offing and festival appearances at Bestival amongst others this summer it looks as though the little green men are gonna blast off in 06 and 07, check ‘em out before everyone discovers area 51 (!)
