Alex Sweeney aka Alex Vest aka Ali Bongo aka Bongovision aka DJ Slippers… the list goes on.
At the age of 16 he began dj-ing and has been dj-ing for 6 years now.based in southport the home of the weekender,he had plenty of inspiration with world class artists arriving in his back garden twice a year.
closey watching other talent around him, including chibuku residents phil charnock and sister sarah sweeney, he went from strength to strength gaining musical knowledge, embracing new skills and finding inspiration from original djs such as danny krivit,louie vega and francois K..a love for soul music grew and helped him develop his own style of dj-ing and to look into many genres of music which incorporate the soul edge.
since moving to liverpool over a year ago he has played in bars and clubs within the city on nights featuring djs such as mr scruff,giles peterson,phil asher,layo and bushwacka,roni size to name a few and also featured at exciting events such as the magnet boat party which rode the mersey,sick trumpet and chibukus ‘let off steam’ steam train party which travelled through north wales.
in between he has ventured around the country to spread his vibe in faversham(leeds),lincoln lounge and battersea park(london),city bar(chester)…..he says the reason why he djs is because it’s expressive and a good outlet for him. he also hopes in a way he has inspired the listeners the way he was inspired when he began his journey into music.
strangely alex doesn’t own a pair of decks which is probably why everytime he plays its like watching a little kiddy that’s deeply hypnotized by the wheels going round…’the wheels on the deck go round and round’ he sings a recent hobby alex has picked up is photography.he enjoys recording nights out he has gone to or played at to capture the atmosphere and moments that he doesn’t want to forget.
